At the muhurat ceremony of her last release, Baby John, Wamiqa Gabbi—who has appeared in Modern Love Mumbai, Jubilee, and Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley—recently discussed her first encounter with Shah Rukh Khan. The film, which is being produced by Atlee and features Gabbi alongside Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh, marked Kalees' directorial debut.
Gabbi disclosed the rather unpleasant nature of her initial encounter with SRK in an interview with Mashable India. Atlee (Mersal and Bigil) invited the superstar to the Baby John (remake of Theri) mahurat ceremony, and he spent approximately fifteen minutes on set.
"My conversation was very weird with him," Gabbi recalled looking back on the incident. She stated, "My conversation was very weird with him. We were all at the Baby John muhurat when Shah Rukh Khan visited the set for 15 minutes. My brother Hardik was with me on the set. When he came, everybody was so charmed by him that they stood around him and heard him talk. My brother and I were standing at the back and we were having our own conversation, anticipating our possible conversation with the star. I asked Hardik, ‘If he will come to speak to me while leaving, what do you think I should speak with him about?’ Hardik joked, ‘Nas kaat de’. We are laughing and talking all this."
When Shah Rukh Khan approached her to say goodbye, things took an unusual turn. "And as anticipated, he did come to me before he left, as I was also in the film. He said, ‘Okay, bye,’ and I said, ‘It was so nice meeting you, sir. My brother was suggesting I cut my wrist but obviously I won’t do that.’ Now, as soon as I told this to him, everyone went quiet, and SRK simply left. After he left, a person from the production came running to me and was like, ‘Did you just talk about cutting your wrist?’ My brother was shocked. I honestly thought SRK would get the humour, but he didn’t," she continued.
Rajkummar Rao, who met with the superstar recently, was also at the interview and discussed it. "I met Shah Rukh sir at Farah Khan’s birthday. We spoke a lot. We discussed his film, King, then we spoke about Aryan Khan’s new show. He also said he liked my film Stree 2," Rao added.
Meanwhile, Gabbi is gearing up for the release of Bhool Chuk Maaf opposite Rao, which will finally hit the big screen on May 23, 2025, after multiple delays.
