War 2 Telugu box office collection day 11: Jr NTR's film leaves Telugu buyers at losses close to Rs 45 crore

War 2 marked the Hindi debut of Jr NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan. As the film was backed by Yash Raj Films, there was massive hype across the globe, but in the Telugu states, the buzz was on another level as NTR was facing Hrithik for the first time, and he was doing a stylish action drama after a long time.

War 2's collections fall under Rs 1 crore in Telugu

Though War 2 released alongside Rajinikanth's Coolie, it opened big in Telugu, collecting Rs 23 crore net on day one, the highest ever for a dubbed Hindi film in Telugu. The first weekend saw decent collections, but as word of mouth turned negative, War 2 continued to sink at the box office.

From day five onwards, it started making less than Rs 2 crore, which is quite disappointing. The action drama has completed ten days of its run and collected Rs 50.8 crore to date in Telugu. Though these are fair numbers for a Bollywood film in Telugu, they are loss-making for the Telugu distributors.

The Telugu rights were sold for a whopping Rs 95 crore. Looking at the way the film is faring, War 2 will be out of theaters this week in Telugu, meaning the distributors are staring at losses close to Rs 45 crore, which is a massive setback. Those who spent heavily to bag rights in the interiors of Andhra have lost huge amounts due to the bad word of mouth.

Fans upset with Jr NTR's script selection

Ayan Mukerji directed the film, and the lack of proper emotional depth in his narration did not sit well with many. Fans of NTR are upset that once again their star hero has been sidelined after RRR. They feel NTR should stop doing two-hero films and focus on his career as a solo hero.

Not only War 2 but also Rajinikanth's Coolie is suffering, with buyers in Telugu facing nearly Rs 30 crore in losses. NTR is now taking a break and will soon start shooting for his new film Dragon with Prashanth Neel.
