Aamir Khan seems to be going through a rough patch in his career of late. His latest outing, Laal Singh Chaddha witnessed a lacklustre run at the box office after the film found itself in the midst of calls for a boycott. Now it seems that the actor’s next project, Mogul, is also in trouble. It was reported that the upcoming film has been shelved by the makers.
According to a report in Bollywood Life, Bhushan Kumar, who was on board to produce the film under the banner of T-Series, had decided to shelve the project indefinitely. The report stated that the move was taken after Laal Singh Chaddha’s poor performance at the box office, following which the makers were not in favour of putting money into Mogul. Aamir was scheduled to start work on Mogul after finishing Laal Singh Chaddha.
Mogul is reportedly a biopic based on the life of Gulshan Kumar, who would have been played by Aamir. In conversation with Pinkvilla, Bhushan had said that he had an emotional connection to the film and that he was not making it for the money. Adding that the film was about the hard work his father had done, Bhushan had said that the film “will happen for sure”.
The film had been announced a few years ago, and Akshay Kumar was initially attached to star in the same. After the actor walked out, the makers had roped in Aamir. Subhash Kapoor was attached to direct Mogul, but the director had reportedly moved on after hearing the news that the film would be shelved. Subhash is currently working on the third instalment in the Jolly LLB franchise, which will reportedly feature Akshay and Arshad Warsi.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Laal Singh Chaddha is expected to stream on Netflix after its theatrical run. Although the makers have not unveiled an official release date, the film is expected to hit the streamer’s platform after four weeks.
