SS Rajamouli has responded to claims that Ram Charan received more screen time in RRR than his co-star Jr NTR. It comes after Ram Charan denied such reports, stating that he and Jr. NTR both performed admirably in the film. Rajamouli stated that he is aware of the perception.

Rajamouli stated that if the two lead actors had not been treated equally, the movie would not have been such a huge box office success. The filmmaker then went into detail about why Ram Charan appears to have a larger role in the film.

He stated to Bollywood Hungama that Charan did not deserve all of the praise, to put it mildly. As a director, he couldn't be happier with the results that both of them provided. But, depending on how one looks at it, one actor is better than the other. Rajamouli gave an example, stating that Charan has been given more space in the climax because it is the last thing one remembers, and it appears that Charan is receiving more attention than Tarak (Jr. NTR).

However, if the filmmaker had stopped the film after Komuram Bheemudo, Charan would have appeared to be a bystander while Tarak took up the entire screen space. As a storyteller, one shouldn't pass such a judgement. Always consider how much empathy one has for the characters as an audience.

Rajamouli explained that, depending on the audience's perception, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR could both appear as the bigger stars in the film. If one reads the story, Tarak saves Charan twice, and Charan once saves Tarak. Charan's character is also heard saying that for 15 years, he wasn't sure what his goal was. Tarak paved the way for him with a single song. Charan thought a weapon was something physical, but Tarak showed him that a weapon is an emotion.

From this vantage point, Charan is the teacher and Tarak is the disciple. Rajamouli stated that the film would not have made 1000 crores if the balance between these two actors had not been perfect.

Just two weeks after its release, RRR broke into the Rs 1000 crore club worldwide. At the global box office, it is the third film in Indian cinema history to gross more than Rs 1000 crore at the global box office.
