Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is a die-hard fan of Superstar Rajinikanth. His film Petta was nothing but a nearly 3-hour love letter to Rajinikanth's filmography. And for a devoted fan such as Karthik it was a memorable moment to watch Mr. Bharath on the big screen again. The star director posted the video of him watching the grainy film print of the 1986 superhit movie alone in an old theatre.

"I was on a location scout to a theatre in chennai & they were playing Mr.Bharath film.I have never got a chance to see that film in theatre so got in for few mins.Felt goosebumps & emotional to see 80s thalaivar on big screen..Love you," he captioned the video.

The scene posted by Karthik shows Rajinikanth confronting his father, played by Sathyaraj. The film was based on the Hindi hit Trishul. It tells the story of a son who vows to make his rich and arrogant father repent for betraying his mother. The film was helmed by S. P. Muthuraman from a script written by Visu. The movie went on to become a cultural milestone in Tamil cinema, mainly thanks to the chemistry between the characters of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj. The song Ennamma Kannu achieved the status of a classic among the fans of masala movies owing to the performances of the duo.

Karthik made Petta which felt like a throwback to the vintage Rajinikanth films. Released in 2019, the film instantly became a hit with the fans.

On the career front, Karthik has written the story for director Shankar's next, which has been titled RC 15. Starring Ram Charan in the lead, the film is in production. Karthik is also busy shooting for Jigarthanda Double, which is a sequel to his career-making movie Jigarthanda (2014). The upcoming film stars SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence in the lead roles.
