Meanwhile, Kurup is based on India's longest-wanted fugitive, Sukumara Kurup. The film directed by Srinath Rajendran has Wayfarer Films and M-Star Entertainments as the producers.
The much-awaited Malayalam film also features Sobhita Dhulipala, Indrajith Sukumaran, Shine Tom Chacko and Bharath Niwas in supporting roles.
Earlier, during an exclusive interaction with OTTPlay, Rajendran spoke at length about helming Kurup. He told us that Kurup is a legend in its own right. Since the director's birth in 1984, this mystery has remained unresolved. So, as far as he is concerned, if he was to make a mystery film, this is the story he would like to tell and it's a well-known tale.
When asked if Kurup glorifies the criminal, the filmmaker went on to say, "How can you glorify a person who killed an innocent man? How can a socially-responsible writer or filmmaker do that? You can’t. The rest, the audience will have to watch and find out."
Kurup is set to hit the big screens on November 12, 2021.
