It’s been nearly three years since Shreyas Manju worked on Vishnu Priya, an ultra-realistic love story directed by VK Prakash. Shreyas is paired with Priya Prakash Varrier in the film, which, according to the team, is now being prepped for a March 2024 theatrical release. In the run-up to this, the team launched the first song from the film, Chiguru Chiguru, a romantic number featuring the lead pair in green and picturesque Malnad.

Vishnu Priya is a Gopi Sundar musical and the first song, Chiguru Chiguru, written by Dr V Nagendra Prasad, and sung by award-winning playback singer Najim Arshad, is a mellifluous number picturized on the lead pair, highlighting the bond they share. Chiguru Chiguru captures the cutesy chemistry between the duo. The song was released on January 27, in the presence of Shreyas’ friends and well-wishers from the Kannada film industry, with actors Sharan and Rukmini Vasanth doing the honours of launching it.

Also present at the event were filmmakers AP Arjun, Chethan Kumar, Mahesh S. During the pandemic, producer K Manju had been approached to release Vishnu Priya on a popular OTT platform, but the veteran filmmaker decided against it, as he felt that the film deserves a theatrical outing. In fact, speaking at the song launch, VK Prakash had said that he has made four films and a web series since doing Vishnu Priya and that Manju had met all his queries about their movie with the response, ‘Don’t worry; it will release when the time is right’.

Vishnu Priya was the first film Shreyas had taken up after the failure of his debut, Paddehuli. But the delay in its release meant that his next, Ranna, an out-and-out commercial film directed by Nandakishore came out ahead of it. Ranna also did not work at the box office, so Shreyas has hopes on Vishnu Priya changing his trajectory around for the better.

K Manju is looking at releasing Vishnu Priya in theatres for Shivaratri on March 8, but if that doesn't work out, he is looking at April 5, no matter the competition at the box office.
