If you loved watching the devotional anthem Varaha Roopam play out in theatres when Kantara came out and have since enjoyed the audio version of it on streaming platforms, well, here’s something that may make your day. On the occasion of the first anniversary of Kantara’s release, production house Hombale Films dropped the full video of the song on their official YouTube channel. The banner had promised the song at 10 am on September 30, but this was delayed and finally came only at 8 pm. Well, better late than never, right!

Composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and sung by Sai Vignesh , Varaha Roopam was an instant hit when it came out. However, soon after there were allegations that Ajaneesh had copied the song from Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge’s Navarasam. The film team and the band were involved in a protracted legal tussle, during which time there was a stay on playing the song in the film. This, in turn, delayed Kantara’s OTT outing and when it eventually came, there was a different version of the song in it, which was not half as effective as the original. Eventually, the song was back in the film.

The song apart, what made Varaha Roopam extra special is Rishab Shetty’s Bhoothakola performance as a daiva narthaka possessed by Panjurli. This sequence as well as an earlier one at the beginning of Kantara were choreographed by Rishab’s friend and fellow actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty. Following the massive success of Kantara, which raked in over Rs 400 crore at the box office, Rishab has been working on the script for Kantara 2, which he says will be a prequel. According to reports, Rishab is looking at presenting the origin story of Panjurli, who has the form of a wild boar. But the actor-filmmaker has been growing out his hair and beard and has also been taking horse-riding and kalarippayattu lessons, so, the story he presents may be something different altogether.
