Prime Video India has begun streaming the 2024 romantic drama We Live in Time that stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. The film portrays a ten-year connection between two individuals who are brought together by coincidence and impacted by their decisions in life. It was written by Nick Payne and directed by John Crowley.

Characters and plot overview

Tobias Durand, played by Garfield (The Social Network), is somebody dealing with the fallout of a failing marriage and a recent divorce. An ambitious and rising star chef, Pugh (Little Women and The Commuter) portrays Almut Brühl. What starts as a brief encounter develops into a complicated friendship over the course of ten years as their lives suddenly converge. The film uses a nonlinear storytelling style, jumping about in time to reveal their relationship's development.

The Toronto International Film Festival was where the global premiere of We Live in Time took place on September 6, 2024. A24 (who also produced X and The Green Knight) later released the US version on October 11, 2024, and StudioCanal released it in the UK and France on January 1, 2025. Around the world, the film has made $57.5 million since it came out.

Critical acclaim and performances

The majority of the critical acclaim for the film has gone to the film's leading actors. One of the film's strongest points, according to critics, is the chemistry between Garfield and Pugh, whose performances give an otherwise spare storyline more emotional punch. Ordinary moments and quiet conversations, rather than theatrics, carry the film's emotional heart.

We Live in Time shares a tone with Brooklyn (2015), another film from director John Crowley, which is characterised by understated narration and spare imagery. The structure of Nick Payne's screenplay gently pieces together the plot, allowing the viewer to contemplate the transience of relationships and the subtle development of love.
