Although Wednesday, the new Netflix comedy from filmmaker Tim Burton, is best known for its misanthropic main character, Morticia and Gomez Addams' daughter has always been a social butterfly, as the first trailer for Wednesday shows. Even while the people Wednesday Addams chooses to favour with her presence may not share her sense of fun, that doesn't mean she isn't trying her best to, you know, connect with them.

The first trailer for Wednesday introduces its perspective on Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) as she is being expelled from yet another one of her "normal" schools for terrorising her classmates. Neither her father (Luis Guzman) nor her mother (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is particularly surprised by this news. Although Wednesday's parents are aware that she is merely acting naturally and defending her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), they are also aware that if their daughter is ever going to receive a quality education, she will require a school that can accommodate her particular needs.

The Nevermore Academy, a peculiar school overseen by Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie), is a much better fit for Wednesday, given its classes' emphasis on lethal duels and strange monsters from the trailer. When Wednesday premieres on Netflix this autumn, it will be harder to predict whether the remaining students at Nevermore will be prepared for the chaos that its newest pupil will bring to the campus.

According to Netflix, the supernaturally laced mystery Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega in the title role and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and more, follows Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

In a statement, Netflix's Teddy Biaselli said that every time the Addams Family appeared on screen, whether it was in a legendary TV series, brilliant film, recent Broadway musical, or even cameos on Scooby Doo, he was watching. He adored how the Addams Family poked fun at supposed "normality" at every turn. They were a middle finger on a disembodied hand to the existing quo throughout their whole existence. And only Wednesday Addams was more disobedient, avant-garde, and recognisable.

The premiere date of Wednesday is yet to be announced by Netflix.
