Nawazuddin Siddiqui is working with Kangana Ranaut for the first time in Tiku Weds Sheru. Although Kangana is not acting in the film, this is her debut as a producer. Nawazuddin, who openly admires the actress, reveals why he decided to act in this dark satire.

Talking about what made him choose this project, Nawazuddin said, "Well, I knew Kangana's work, her choice of films and the kinds of story she believes in. I knew her as an artist and I respect her for her thoughts and choices. That way I knew that whatever the project is, it is surely be something good. When I read the script, it was so interesting that I had no reason not to do the film."

"I think one of the elements of the film is the quirky characters. My character is funny and quirky, which I loved about Sheru. I like the way he handles the worse situations with a sense of humour. Even though he is a junior artist in the film industry, in his mind, he feels he is a superstar," added the actor.

Mentioning how she convinced the actor to be part of the film, Kangana shared, "I wanted to work with Nawaz sir on this film, so when I tried to reach out to him, I was told that sir is quite occupied and that he is not willing to sign any new project for next five years. I wondered why he has such strict rules and what if he likes the story I am offering? So, I arranged his number somehow and called him. He was in Bengaluru and he said that if I want to meet him, I have to be there. I took a flight and went on to meet him. He was surprised to see me and he said, 'Arrey, tum to aa gayi!' I said that I would like to share a script with him and he replied, 'Ab jab tum aa hi gayi to film karte hai. Ab script kya padna?' Without even reading the script, he agreed to do the film. I thought that creative people are a little unpredictable at times, but after meeting Nawaz sir I realised that he is quite pagal (in a funny and positive way) and I loved that."

The film is a tale of a junior artist Sheru who had a dream to make it big in Bollywood though just surviving in the city playing small parts in big films. Once he gets married and brings his bride to Mumbai, a life-changing experience takes place. How then Sheru, who is married to Tiku, survives sets the basic storyline of the film.

The film is directed by Sai Kabir, produced under the banner Manikarnika Films, and is releasing on Amazon Prime Video on June 23.
