The hit Netflix series Cobra Kai is returning for its fifth season this Friday. The spin-off to The Karate Kid films from the 80s has been universally lauded as one of the best in the genre. Before you binge the new season, we have curated a list of what to expect from Season 5.

The rise of Chozen

One of the primary themes of Cobra Kai since its first season has been redemption. And no character embodies this more than the villain from The Karate Kid Part II, Chozen. In the third season of Cobra Kai, Daniel LaRusso’s old nemesis Chozen makes a comeback, but as a man reformed and redeemed. In one of the final scenes of Season 4, Chozen is shown to team up with Daniel to help take down the villainous Terry Silver and Silver’s new vision for the Cobra Kai dojo.

Sons, fathers, and a cycle of violence

Another predominant theme of the franchise is the complex relationships between sons and father figures. The once deranged John Kreese gets a revelation towards the finale of Season 4 that he always considered Johnny Lawrence as a son and he tries to change his ways. Whereas Johnny himself mends his relationship with his own son Robby. Elsewhere, Johnny’s first and best student Miguel is on the road to Mexico in search of his real father, a man, who according to his mother, is a very dangerous individual. Johnny and Robby travel to Mexico in search of Miguel before things take a turn for the worst.

Anthony vs Kenny

One of the new characters introduced in Season 4 was the young and timid Kenny Payne, who was on the receiving end of constant bullying from none other than Anthony LaRsusso, son of Daniel LaRusso. Kenny soon joins the Cobra Kai and becomes a dangerous fighter. A remorseful and apologetic Anthony’s attempts to bury the hatchet with Kenny ended up being a vicious beat down by Cobra Kai’s most promising student on the young LaRusso. Season 5 could see the two square off in a fight, and the fight may not be as one-sided as before, considering Anthony got hold of a scroll containing some of Mr Miyagi’s ancient Karate techniques.

The return of the ‘next Karate Kid’

The show’s greatest strength has always been in its ability to balance the nostalgia element of the Karate Kid franchise in a modern setting. This involved carefully integrating characters from the original films into the show’s narrative with thoroughly fleshed-out arcs. The one character fans are yet to see in the series is Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce from the film The Next Karate Kid. There is plenty of speculation online that Swank may in fact make an appearance in Season 5.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

There have been some spectacular new rivalries in the series that puts the original rivalry between Daniel and Johnny to shame. Demitri vs Hawk and Miguel vs Robby have featured some intense battles between both pairs. But the one that truly stands out is the truly violent rivalry between Samantha LaRusso and Tory Nichols. The two young women have been involved in some brutal and relentless fights. However, things could finally cool down between the two as they may be forced to work together in Season 5, with the Season 4 finale hinting at the same.

Blast from the past

Daniel LaRusso has come across a few of his former adversaries over the course of the series. While he has managed to develop good relationships with some of them in the present timeline, there is one that might not be as friendly as the others. One of the antagonists from The Karate Kid Part III, Mike Barnes, could make his much-awaited comeback. The dangerous former member of the Cobra Kai could team up with his former mentor Terry Silver for Season 5 as one of the main antagonists.

Silver vs Chozen

The most dangerous fighter in Cobra Kai thus far has been Terry Silver. And an unhinged Terry Silver is even more deadly, but the one man who could take him down is Daniel’s old-nemesis-turned-ally, Chozen. Unlike the other characters from The Karate Kid franchise, Chozen has spent more than 30 years honing and perfecting his craft, and in Season 3, Chozen bested Daniel in a practice fight with relative ease. So it’s more than likely Season 5 could feature the mega showdown between Terry Silver and Chozen.

Well thats the OTTplay List hai toh hit hai for today, until the next episode its your host Nikhil signing out.
