Feel Good revolves around Mae, a stand-up comedian, who tries not to lose herself when she falls head over heels in love with George, who has only been with men. The two are instantly drawn to each other, but soon uncover secrets they have been hiding for long.
They have their own burdens to carry as Mae struggles with being a drug addict while George finds it difficult to come out to her friends, who continue to try and set her up with men. The series portrays internal conflict in a real and raw manner, thus allowing the audience to relate to both these flawed characters.
The show is also representative of closeted individuals and the stresses they face. This is visible through George’s character, as she can’t get herself to come out to the people in her life just yet.
The series does a great job at covering themes like gender identity, gender dysmorphia, sexual abuse, gender fluidity, addiction, trauma, fame, identity, mental health and much more. The show draws the perfect balance between tragedy and comedy, without blowing things out of proportion. Its crisp and well-written dialogues make it gripping and emotional at the same time.
If you recall, season 1 ended with George breaking up with Mae and then being desperate to get back together with her. However, while they were apart, Mae spiraled out of control and now has multiple secrets of her own.
In the trailer of season 2, we learn that it was in fact Mae who broke up with George, perhaps because of the guilt she felt about sleeping with Lava and having taken drugs again. This leaves George vulnerable and makes us wonder where her life will go from there.
We unfortunately see George with another man in the upcoming season 2 trailer and if you’re rooting for Mae and George to get back together, that scene really does sting.
In season 2, although we want the duo to get together soon, we also hope for Mae to come to terms with herself and get clean before she gets into a relationship again. It would also be great to witness George take control of her life and embrace her sexuality.
