With major streaming platforms not very gung-ho about Kannada content, it’s been slim pickings for audiences. In the new year, there have been no major Kannada OTT releases, with only dubbed content available. That changes next week, when home-grown on-demand video streaming platform for Kannada cinema, Namma Flix, adds two new titles to its library. The platform, which brought Paavana Gowda’s Rudri as a direct-to-OTT release not long ago, will release Electronic City on January 19 and Eradu Savirada Ippathu Gopikiyaru a week later on January 26.

Electronic City, which released in November last year, has a newbie cast led by Aryan Harsha, Diya Ashlesha and Rakshitha Keremane. The film, directed by Chikkanna Ramakrishnaiah is about the strenuous IT industry as the title suggests. The crux of the cinema is about the pressures of a profession in software, including tight deadlines and the absence of a work-life balance in such high pressure situations, but it also weaves in the right mix of emotions and romance into the narrative to make for an interesting viewing.

Eradu Savirada Ippathu Gopikiyaru, meanwhile, was a December 2021 release and is finally coming on OTT. Led by Balaji Sharma and Priyanka Chincholi, the film, according to its official synopsis, follows a group of childhood buddies and how their life is impacted when a child comes into their life. How the relationship dynamics change is what the film by director V Narayanaswamy is about. Speaking about the film ahead of the release, Priyanka had said that Eradu Savirada Ippathu Gopikiyaru is a female-centric subject about motherhood. “It’s a family entertainment film,” she said.
