It's disheartening news for Mohanlal fans who were excited about his collaboration with Jana Gana Mana director Dijo Jose Antony. Producer Listin Stephen has quashed rumours surrounding the alleged project, which never took off. For the uninitiated, it was reported a few months ago that the Malayalam superstar would be teaming up with the director for a film that would also have Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Listin Stephan: Mohanlal did not like the thread of the story narrated to him

In a recent interview, when producer Listin Stephen was asked about the rumoured collaboration between Mohanlal and Dijo Jose Antony, he put rumours to rest. He said that the project was nearly confirmed, but the Lucifer star did not approve of the story. “We were in talks to do a project under Dijo Jose Antony’s direction; however, Mohanlal did not approve of the story. It was a big project and the team and I were keen to go ahead with it, but he (Mohanlal) was not okay with the plot, hence the film got shelved. It was a good script, but of course, at the end of the day, the artist has to approve of the story before finalising the project,” said Listin.

Dijo Jose Antony, who made his debut with the Saniya Iyapan-starrer Queen, had previously worked with Mohanlal for a TV advertisement about steel pipes.

Mohanlal’s Neru to be released in theatres on December 21

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his courtroom drama, Neru, which is helmed by Jeethu Joseph. The film, whose trailer is yet to be released, sees Mohanlal play an advocate after 13 years. The project also marks Priyamani’s onscreen reunion with the superstar after the success of their 2012 crime thriller, Grandmaster. This is the first time that she is collaborating with director Jeethu Joseph. Neru also stars Siddique, Jagadish, Ganesh Kumar, and others in key roles.
