It’s time to raise the curtains for the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards 2021, which felicitates the best work in American television across select categories. You can now pull up your list of potential winners and tally them against those who went ahead and won.

When and where to watch in IST?

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on Monday, September 20 as against the virtual ceremony that took place last year due to the pandemic. However, Emmys 2021 will see a muted ceremony with 500 attendees at the do. The ceremony will take place in a tent in Los Angeles, unlike last year where celebrities joined virtually from around the globe. Emmy Awards 2021 will live stream on September 19 on CBS & Paramount. For Indian viewers, Emmy Awards 2021 will air live on September 20, at 5.30 pm as per IST on Lionsgate Play. Hamish Hamilton will direct the whole ceremony.

What to expect?

This year, The Neighbourhood fame Cedric the Entertainer will present the Emmy Awards, making him the first solo Black host after Bryant Gumbel in 1997. The list of nominations is long but the frontrunners seem to be HBO’s Lovecraft Country that got 18 Emmy nods, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, which got 20 nominations, and Netflix’s The Crown, which clinched 24 nominations.

How do the shows get nominated for Emmy?

As per the rules, the shows have to be aired between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021, to qualify for the nominations. This time, there’s the choice for actors to go gender-neutral as an actor or actress and can request their nomination certificate or their Emmy statuette to mention them as ‘performer’ instead of an ‘actor’ or ‘actress.’
