Acclaimed actress Geetanjali Kulkarni - who has garnered audiences’ attention and won awards for her performance as Shanti Mishra in Shreyansh Pandey-created comedy-drama series Gullak on SonyLIV - recently took to the stage to perform lavani at a Marathi theatre festival in Mumbai.

An well-known name in the world of both Hindi and Marathi cinema, Geetanjali has acted in several films and OTT series - including Ragini MMS 2, Court, Photograph, Bombay Rose, Sir, Aarya, Cobalt Blue, Minimum and Rangbaaz Darr Ki Rajneeti, apart from Gullak, which also stars Jameel Khan, Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Harsh Mayar. That said, she is quite active on the stage as well. In fact, she was honoured with the ‘Best Supporting Actor (Female)’ title at the prestigious Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards’ (META) last month, for her performance in writer-director Bhushan Korgaonkar’s play Lavani ke Rang.

Recently, the play was staged once again as part of the Natya Velhal: Marathi Theatre Festival at the Royal Opera House, in Mumbai. Taking to her Instagram page, Geetanjali posted a picture of herself after the performance - in which she also plays the narrator, guiding the audience into the nuances of Sangeet Bari - and captioned it: “We performed Lavni Ke Rang at @mumbaiopera as a part of Natya Velhal Festival. A festival of Marathi plays. Thank you @suhasbhilawadikar (my brother in law ) for this stunning click.”

In contrast to her on screen characters, Geetanjali was seen dressed in a Maharashtrian Nauvari saree, complete with heavy gold jewellery and gajra in her hair, for her lavani performance. In the past, she has been a part of noted plays like Piya Behrupiya, Gajab Kahani, Mumtaz Bhai Patangwale and S*x M*rality and Cens*rship, among others.

Cut to her OTT outings, Geetanjali is said to be shooting for Ladies’ Hostel, a horror web series to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
