When the Houston crowd cheered to the tunes of AR Rahman's Ponni Nadhi

AR Rahman is currently on a North American tour. On July 31, the double-Oscar-winning composer performed Ponni Nadhi, the first single from Ponniyin Selvan-1, hours after its release in India. The makers released a video where the Mozart of Madras performs at the concert, in front of a packed house, with female vocals provided by Jonita Gandhi and Rakshita Suresh. The event was met with thunderous applause.

Further, Rahman is expected to perform the second single, which will be released in Hyderabad next week. The performance could be seen by an audience in Detroit or Chicago when it is released. Meanwhile, the Ponni Nadhi lyric video, which was released in five languages, has 1.4 crore views in Tamil.

OTTplay had told you that the audio and trailer of Ponniyin Selvan would be launched on September 6 in Chennai, with several prominent personalities in attendance. Hearsay is that Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin have been invited for the same. However, we don't know if these three will make it to the evening.

The second single from the film based on Vikram's Aditya Karikalan will be released on August 18, before the release of the audio launch. Reports suggest that team Ponniyin Selvan will promote the song in Hyderabad and Mumbai before August 20. The song is about Aditya Karikalan's victory, which was filmed in Hyderabad's Ramoji Rao Film City in the first half of 2021.

Ahead of the Ponniyin Selvan release, Vikram joined Twitter.

Ponniyin Selvan-1 is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 Tamil novel of the same name, which chronicles the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, one of the most powerful kings in the south, who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.

Ponniyin Selvan's first instalment will be released on September 30. The art director is Thota Tharani, and the editor is Sreekar Prasad. The star cast includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Ashwin Kakumanu.
