All of us have experienced at least one moment of guilt, where we thought what if, and lucky are those who never had to overcome that feeling. It is a human emotion that's one of the toughest to deal with and comes close to heartbreak or is often caused after one. While Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin's When The Phone Rings has a happy ending, there's a lot more going on. Here, we explore the moment that led to them feeling guilty at the same time...

Paik Sa-eon and Hong Hee-joo's truth unveiled

Paik Sa-eon is not the real Paik Sa-eon. He has been living under a false identity. She, on the other hand, was never honest about how she felt trapped after the wedding. He tried to get her at ease but failed time-after-time. This led to the beginning of When The Phone Rings - where she demanded divorce on the kidnapping call.

A series of misunderstandings later...

Sa-eon and Hee-joo did not try to understand one another after one point. It is what usually leads to a marriage falling apart. He assumed that she was unhappy and wanted to be the bad guy while letting her go. She assumed that he was pretentious and a snob. None of them actually spoke up about their true feelings because of a barrier between them - their toxic family relations.

A regret that brings the couple closer

It was regret that this happy couple felt after exposing their real selves to one another. They wondered if life would have been different had they been honest about themselves and their feelings towards each other. The answer is obvious. Nonetheless, this emotion brought them closer and they were now leading a happier life than they did before the phone calls. With it, the makers stated out loud that honesty is better than guilt. But then again, if the couple would have been honest, we would have never gotten the series. So, we guess it is what it is.
