Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar in the titular role, is among the most anticipated films that have been awaiting a theatrical release but keep getting delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was set to be a March 2020 release, but due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the film was postponed indefinitely. Earlier this year, the makers had announced a release date of April 30, 2021, which also got postponed.

Now during the recently concluded launch of stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, Rohit gave an update on Sooryavanshi's theatrical release. As per a report in News18, the filmmaker shared, "It depends on when theatres will open. Everything will open once the vaccination process is done throughout the country. And once that happens then only we’ll be able to figure out this (release date)."

Sooryavanshi also stars Katrina Kaif as the female lead. The film has Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in extended cameos wherein they reprise their roles as Singham and Simmba respectively. The cop drama also features Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Vivan Bhatena, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer and Javed Jaffrey in pivotal roles.

Before the release of Sooryavanshi, Rohit kickstarted the shoot of his forthcoming directorial titled Cirkus starring Ranveer Singh in a double role. The actor will be seen alongside Varun Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde.

The shooting for the film kickstarted in 2020 amid the pandemic and the makers often share BTS moments from the film on social media pages. The confirmed release date of Cirkus is yet to be announced while the digital streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix.
