Who is Raj B Shetty’s Maavera in Prajwal Devaraj’s Karavali?

When director Gurudatha Ganiga revealed actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty’s casting in the upcoming Prajwal Devaraj film Karavali, but offered no other details, the first thought was that it is unlikely to be an antagonist again. Ramesh Indira is in the film after all. Raj would more likely be in a mentor role or so, one thought. But then, turns out it is not that.
Is Raj B Shetty's Maavera antagonist in Karavali?
According to a source, Raj’s character Maavera, is Prajwal’s father in the film. Raj is paired with Sushmitha Bhat, of Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse and Chow Chow Bath fame. Raj’s portions, though, are part of a flashback, as he and Sushmitha do not share screen space with Prajwal, given that their characters die young, leaving their son an orphan. The circumstance of their demise is pivotal to the story of Karavali, we are told.
Meanwhile, the team has begun promotions of the film and dropped the first song Muddu Gumma, featuring Prajwal and Sampada Hulivana (of Ekka fame). The buzz is that the makers are targeting a February release, but are yet to make an official announcement.
Karavali will be Prajwal’s first release since last year’s Rakshasa . The actor has another film with Rakshasa and Mummy Save Me maker Lohith, Mafia, that’s been ready for a while, but there’s no news of when it will be in theatres. Gurudatha, on the other hand, has already announced his next venture, Jugari Cross, an adaptation of Poornachandra Tejaswi’s novel of the same name, which will have Raj in the lead.
