Prosenjit Chatterjee, last seen in Jubilee, plays a very important role in Hansal Mehta’s upcoming Netflix show, Scoop. However, the filmmaker was not too certain about casting the actor in the role. There is a reason for that.

Hansal spoke to IANS, where he said that Prosenjit wasn’t even on his mind for the role of Jaideb Sen. That is because Prosenjit is not built like J. Dey (the show is based on J. Dey murder case). Even more so, the character is not a romantic hero, whereas Prosenjit, according to Hansal, has the image of a romantic hero.

“I was initially a bit resistant to Prosenjit Chatterjee playing Jaideb Sen because of his build, and has a very romantic hero image afterall he is the son of Biswajit,” he said. Hansal was also unsure about how to approach the actor since the role is very limited.

Prosenjit’s name was suggested by Monika Shergill (Vice President for content, Netflix). This is after they tried to shortlist names who could play J. Dey on-screen.

While Prosenjit plays the role of J. Dey (Jaideb Sen on-screen), Karishma Tanna is seen as the lead character, Jigna Vora (Jagruti Pathak on-screen). Scoop is inspired by Jigna Vora’s book, Byculla: My Time In Prison. The journalist was accused of murdering J. Dey and had to face prison on the charges.

The show also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Deven Bhojani and Ira Dubey in pivotal roles. It will start streaming on Netflix from June 2.
