Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is one of the leading contemporary voices of Tamil cinema. However, his biggest drawback is he can't give a compelling narration while pitching his stories to big stars and producers. And as a result, he has lost several opportunities to work with his favourite stars.

In a recent interview, Karthik Subbaraj revealed that he made two attempts to collaborate with Thalapathy Vijay, but his storytelling didn't resonate with the superstar. He said, "I narrated two stories to Vijay sir. But, he didn't like them. I have plans to meet him soon with a story he would like," during an interview with Cinema Vikatan.

Despite his drawbacks, Karthik Subbaraj is a force to reckon with in the Tamil film industry. And he's now waiting for the release of his upcoming movie Jigarthanda DoubleX, which is a sequel to his 2014 smash hit Jigarthanda.

Even though he's thrilled by director Lokesh Kanagaraj's idea about creating a cinematic universe, he expressed no intentions to create a similar movieverse within the Jigarthanda franchise.

"It's (Lokesh cinematic universe) an amazing idea. It got me very excited. Even before he (Lokesh) made Vikram, he told me that it was connected to the world of Kaithi. And that idea has got audiences excited. But, I won't be doing anything on the similar lines," he added.

Jigarthanda DoubleX is touted as a spiritual sequel to Jigarthanda. Starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in the lead roles, the movie's core story is similar to its predecessor. The upcoming movie also tells the struggle of a first-time director trying to make a feature film with a gangster in a lead role.

Besides writing and directing, Karthik has also bankrolled Jigarthanda DoubleX under his own banner Stone Bench Films. The movie is set to arrive in cinemas on November 10.
