Will Ditipriya Roy play freedom fighter Bina Das in Srijit Mukherji’s film?

During the lockdown, Srijit Mukherji was moved by the biography of freedom fighter Bina Das. He explored her life while sitting at home. Bina tried to kill Bengal’s governor Stanley Jackson in the Samabartan Hall of Calcutta University. For that, she was imprisoned for nine years. Srijit hinted that he was thinking about the freedom fighter’s life and that he was trying to make a film about her. 

The speculation was strengthened Saturday night when it came to news that Srijit chose Ditipriya Roy for Bina’s role. Ditipriya did not deny the news to Aajkal Dot In. She said, “Talks have been going on with Srijitda for the last three years. No official announcement has been made yet. If everything goes fine, then something like that might happen.” 

Srijit and Ditipriya are going to do many things twice. After making Gumnami on Netaji, Srijit is again filming a freedom fighter’s life. Ditipriya is again playing a historical character after Rani Rasmoni. This is her second film with Srijit after Rajkahini. Ditipriya is excited about the project. She said that she discussed the role with Srijit numerous times in the last three years. The matter is still at the discussion stage. She agreed to work in Rajkahini at a very young age just because she trusted Srijit. She still has full confidence in the director. 

Why is Srijit taking so much time? Ditipriya said that a project becomes good if lots of time is invested in it. When the talk started three years back, she was young and immature, said Ditipriya. But she matured in these years, and perhaps the director was waiting for this. She also said, “Srijit da’s choice is always different from the others...No one has talked about Bina Das so far. The director chose her so that he could tell her story in front of all.” 

Ditipriya started reading about the character. Srijit gave her some books. Ditipriya read them and left the rest to Srijit. If everything goes fine, then the shooting will start in December or January. Before that, the audience will get two projects from Srijit--the web series Byomkesh O Durga Rahasya and the Bengal cop universe Dawsham Awbotaar.
