Director Mani Ratnam, celebrated for films like Roja and Iruvar, is set to release Thug Life, marking a reunion with Kamal Haasan since their iconic collaboration on Nayakan in 1987

Director Mani Ratnam, who is awaiting the release of Thug Life, is one of the celebrated filmmakers in India and has a fan following of his own. The Roja filmmaker, who has introduced new talents into the industry like Madhavan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, AR Rahman and Arvind Swamy. But it has been long since Mani Ratnam went back to working with fresh faces. When asked about this, in a recent interview, Mani Ratnam opened up about the possibility.
Director Mani Ratnam, known for his films like Anjali and Iruvar, comes with a brand name for himself. After the success of the duology Ponniyin Selvan, which featured a star ensemble, the filmmaker is all set to work with the Pammal K Sambandham actor for the upcoming film Thug Life. The film marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after their iconic Nayakan in 1987.
In a recent interview, Mani Ratnam was asked if he would collaborate with new faces once again. “It is just an idea, and I have to make a good script, and have the right people come together. I would like to do, but it should fall into place. There are two things; one the script, and the other is getting suitable artists. Only then the project will take place in the right way,” he said.
The film is set for Netflix release after running in theatres for eight weeks. The film will hit the big screens on June 5. Starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, it will be a gangster action drama, and has music by AR Rahman. The star ensemble includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Abhirami, Nasser, Vaiyapuri, Chinni Jayanth, Vadivukkarasi, Tanikella Bharni and others. Thug Life is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.
