Ranbir Kapoor came back to the big screen after almost four years, with Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera, and then went on to take the box office by storm with Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. The actor, who got his start in the industry as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has delighted viewers in front of the camera for more than a decade now. But does Ranbir have plans to get behind the camera anytime soon? The actor recently set the record straight about his directorial aspirations.
The actor appeared at this year’s Red Sea International Film Festival and in conversation with Deadline, opened up about his long term career goals, one of which was to become a director. Although the actor had always wanted to direct a film, he did not have the courage as yet to write and develop a story.
Ranbir said that he had always waited for a good story to come to him. But the problem was that he did not consider himself much of a writer, and was very shy in sharing his ideas with other people. “But I’m working on it, and it’s something that is in my ten-year plan: To start directing movies and hopefully act in them too”, he said.
In the interview, the actor also opened up about whether or not he would be interested in venturing into Hollywood too. His wife and Brahmāstra co-star Alia Bhatt will be making her Hollywood debut soon in the Tom Harper directorial Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.
Ranbir told the publication that although he did not want to say a definitive ‘no’, he was happy with the kind of opportunities he was getting in Indian cinema at the moment. He revealed that he had a kind of ‘block’ when it came to acting in English, but he would never say never about the same.
