Sharmila Tagore will make a comeback in Bengali cinema after years in Suman Ghosh’s Puratawn with Rituparna Sengupta. She worked with Rituparno Ghosh in Shubho Mahurat and then in Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Antaheen. She is a prolific actress in Bollywood. Will the evergreen actress be seen again in Bengali cinema? Director Abhijit Sridas hinted at that.
The film is connected to another movie, Bijoyar Pore. Sharmila Tagore was supposed to act in that film. Director Abhijit Sen’s first choice was Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore. That was before Lockdown. But then Soumitra Chatterjee passed away. Then the plan changed and Dipankar Dey and Mamata Shankar played the roles. But Sharmila Tagore told Abhijit to continue work after Bijoyar Pore. Bijoyar Pore is being screened in several festivals and will be seen in Chicago in July. Abhijit set foot in the industry through ad works. He got acquainted with Sharmila Tagore because of this. Now, advertisements again brought them together.
Abhijit was making an ad film for a Bengali jewellery brand. Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan will be seen in the ad film. Supratim Bhol worked as the cinematographer and Sandeep Jaiswal is the costume designer of the TVC. They were talking about Bijoyar Pore, and then the question about future projects came up. Soha’s Iti Srikanta and Andarmahal were also mentioned. Abhijit said, “We want to make Bengali films. We started talking about this. The talk was actually initiated previously, now it went to the next stage. Perhaps we will start soon. I will try to make a Bengali film with Sharmila Tagore or Soha or others.”
He also said, “We want to be united again and create a larger film aspect. It will be a special gain to us if Sharmila or Soha are there. I will not say anything in particular right now. You will know it at the right time.”
