Will Sunny Deol beat Shah Rukh Khan? Gadar 2 becomes third highest grossing Indian film, in close competition with Pathaan

Since Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 released, it has now become a battle between the actor and Shah Rukh Khan. The 90s actors, interestingly, were in competition back in the 90s too. Now, Gadar 2 has become the third highest grossing Indian film. This gets the film in competition with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which is the highest grossing film.

Gadar 2 enters Rs. 300 crore club

Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has entered Rs. 300 crore club. The movie earned Rs. 439.95 crores in total so far. It earned Rs. 13.75 crores on day 16 i.e. Saturday. The film has performed better than Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which released in theatres on the same day. The Anil Sharma directorial stars Ameesha Patel in the lead role. She comes back as Safeena while Sunny is seen as Tara Singh again. Both the movies released on August 11 in theatres but Gadar 2 earned over Rs. 300 crores in eight days alone.

What makes Gadar 2 special?

Gadar was already a film close to Indians’ hearts. The sequel of the film was also winning people over. From the first promo to songs and now the film, everything connected with the viewers. Thus, it is almost as if the movie’s sequel did not take 22 years to release.

Competing with Baahubali 2 and Pathaan

Gadar 2 is now competing with both Baahubali: The Conclusion as well as Pathaan. It is currently in direct competition with Baahubali 2 and is expected to cross the film’s Hindi Box Office collections. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan starring film Pathaan is the highest grossing Indian film with collections of Rs. 543.09 crores. The Siddharth Anand directorial was announced as a part of the YRF Spy Universe and featured Deepika Padukone and John Abraham alongside SRK.

SRK-Sunny Deol compete again

The story dates back to Darr. Sunny Deol, an already established star, was seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan, a fairly new actor, in Yash Chopra’s Darr. The film starred Juhi Chawla as the female lead. When the movie released, SRK took all the praises for his negative portrayal. Meanwhile, Sunny claimed that he was promised a bigger role but changes happened in the edit.
