The battle of Bomkesh has intensified. The pre-teaser of Birsa Dasgupta’s Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo is out. The film, which features Dev, Rukmini Maitra, and Ambarish Bhattacharya, will release on August 11. Meanwhile, Srijit Mukherji’s web series, Durgo Rowhoshyo, will drop on Hoichoi soon. The web series features Anirban Bhattacharya, Sohini Sarkar, Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, Chandan Sen, and others.
It has been widely reported that this Byuomkesh story created a controversy between Srijit and Dev. The film rights of this Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s novel lie with Shadow Films. Initially, it was reported that Srijit would direct that film. Dev wished to play Byomkesh Bakshi, but the director wanted Anirban Bhattacharya to play the character. Later, Dev joined hands with Shadow Films to co-produce Durgo Rohoshyo with a new director. Srijit tied up with Hoichoi for a web series as the platform owns the digital rights to the story.
This is how the battle of Byomkesh started with raging hashtags and suggestive tweets. Srijit, in an interview, said that he would like to make a film on Siraj ud-Daulah and would want to cast Dev. The actor took to his social media and denied any such project from his end.
Dev himself revealed that he is not Srijit’s Siraj-ud-Daula regarding ‘Bomkesh’. However, he did not leave the possibility of working with Srijit in the future.
On Thursday evening, all these quotes and counter-quotes got a befitting culmination when Dev made a big announcement. He posted a photo with Srijit and mentioned that they would soon work together. “Finally... we are coming in 2004,” he captioned. The photo was taken right in front of the banner of Dev Entertainment Ventures. In one picture, Dev and the director were seen together, and on the other side, Dev took a photo with his lady love Rukmini. So the hint is clear that Srijit is making a film with Dev. However, nothing more was revealed about this.
