A surprise announcement was made on Thursday, revealing that the title of Rajinikanth's Thalaivar 171 will be unveiled on April 22. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the makers of the project also gave a pleasant surprise by dropping a poster of the film featuring the superstar.

The poster featured a notorious-looking Rajinikanth giving a sarcastic smile, as he is shown wearing handcuffs made of golden watches. The poster has made scores of fans happy as they eagerly wait for the title reveal.

Rajinikanth to play a villain?

For those who have followed Rajinikanth’s body of work since the start of his career know that the actor began his journey by playing antagonist. Rajinikanth then shifted gears and began to play the hero. Even recently, the actor took up a negative shade in Endhiran. It is no doubt that fans will be enthralled to see him don the villain cape once again.

Now, with a new poster of Thalaivar 171 out, scores of fans speculate that Rajinikanth will be seen in a negative shade. The poster too aligns with their thoughts, with Rajinikanth giving a villainy grin with handcuffs on.

It is also to be noted that in an earlier in an interview, director Lokesh Kanagaraj had hinted that he always enjoyed the superstar’s negative roles, which he played during the initial days of his acting career.

Written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is backed by Sun Pictures and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The film's stunts will be handled by AnbAriv duo. More on the cast and crew of the film is expected to be revealed soon. Thalaivar 171 marks first collaboration between Lokesh and Rajinikanth. However, the film is unlikely to fall under Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). The title is set to be revealed on April 22. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is currently shooting his 170th film, Vettaiyan with TJ Gnanavel. The film will feature the actor as a cop.
