Although there are many ghost movies in Malayalam, the 2008 horror thriller film Winter still has a separate fan base. The film is counted among those movies that have been rewatched by the audience multiple times on television and on YouTube, despite its failure at the box office. Now the makers have announced a sequel to the movie, which will have a new storyline. Winter was Deepu Karunakaran directorial debut, while it also marked Anil Panachooran’s first movie as a lyricist. Later on, Deepu helmed hit films like Crazy Gopalan and Karinkunnam Sixes.
The director, however, has said that the second part will not feature Jayaram and Bhavana, as it’s a new story. According to the makers, the cast of the film, which will start shooting August 17 onwards, will be announced soon. The film is backed by Lemon Productions, which is headed by the director himself. Scripted by Sarath Vinayak, editing of the film is handled by Arun Thomas, and camera work by Pradeep Nair
Jayaram had earlier said in an interview with GingerMedia that Winter is a film that’s technically well made, but the release timing affected the prospects of the movie in the theatres. The actor, however, believes that if the movie was released in the present time, it would have garnered great success.
Winter is a psychological horror thriller, which was later regarded as one of the best films in that genre. It tells the story of a doctor and his family going to an abandoned bungalow for a break. However, their stay gets plagued by a series of enigmatic and unsettling occurrences. The story had an unconventional setting, diverging from the usual backdrop seen in Malayalam movies. With captivating and picturesque locations, the film immerses viewers in a thrilling experience, offering a perfect blend of suspense and excitement
Meanwhile, Deepu is also backing a film Njan Kandatha Saare, directed by Priyadarshan’s associate Varun G Panicker. Billed a thriller, the movie stars Indrajith Sukumaran and Anaswara Rajan in lead roles
