A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie has been in the news every now and then for over five years now but now we have some proof about it happening in the near future. A movie is now in discussions which could see Margot Robbie taking the lead.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, producer Jerry Bruckheimer discussed a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The producer was there to talk about the upcoming Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun: Maverick.

When asked about the movie and the possibilities of having a female lead, he said, “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without."

While the producer does not confirm anything about the development, this comes as welcome information to the large fanbase of the franchise. With Johnny Depp’s defamation row happening in court with former wife Amber Heard, the actor was also heard saying that he would not return to the franchise.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy began in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl and ended with At World's End in 2007. While a number of big names such as Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, and Penélope Cruz all made appearances in the five movies so far, Depp was the only actor to feature in all five.

Margot on the other hand, is one of the most popular and bankable names in Hollywood today. The actor recently found success in movies such as Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad, playing Dr. Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn.

She is currently working on director Greta Gerwig's modern day live-action adaptation of Barbie which is slated to release in 2023.
