It has been a dull month for Tamil cinema in December, making it a slow and staggering end to 2025 for theatres. With films like Vaa Vaathiyaar and Love Insurance Company, which were to give some respite, have been delayed multiple times. Theatres are now relying on the January releases, including tentpole films like Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi, which are to grace big screens for Pongal. Given that both are stat-studded projects, and with less than a month to go, Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan makers have started the promotions of their films, sparking some excitement among fans.

Jana Nayagan, the much-anticipated Vijay-starrer, has locked its release date on January 9, 2026, right before Pongal festivities begin. The film is touted as Vijay’s farewell project before the state elections. While the first single, Thalapathy Katcheri is already out, the team is planning to unveil the second single on Thursday. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music, adding an extra zing to the anticipation. While Vijay films are known for their songs and dance numbers, the makers are carefully planning to unveil the songs and gradually culminate to the audio launch, which is to take place on December 27 in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, with Parasakthi featuring Sivakarthikeyan, the team has already started with song releases, and all set to begin with on-ground promotions. Parasakthi will be letting fans experience the world of the film from December 18 at Chennai's Valluvar Kottam. A short film is also being planned to be released on the same day, which will be followed by a 10-day-long exhibition.
Jana Nayagan and Prasakthi to release for Pongal 2026
While Jana Nayagan has locked its release date for January 9, ahead of Pongal festival, Sivakarthikeyan-starrer will be arriving a week later on January 14, leaving enough room between the two films.
Jana Nayagan is directed by H Vinoth, and stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol and others, while Parasakthi comes from Sudha Kongara and features Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela and Atharvaa.
