Based on Roald Dahl’s iconic chocolateer, Wonka traces the story of a young Willy Wonka as he sets up his chocolate business and meets the Oompa Loompas. Directed by Paul King and written by him, as well as Paddington’s Simon Farnaby, the film promises a ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’ and dazzling journey through sweet and colorful delights as well as tantalizing adventures.

The film’s official synopsis read, “Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the bestselling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.”

Since its announcement back in 2020 by HBO, Wonka has been making headlines and thrumming curiosity. And fans have been loyally awaiting the carnivalesque adventure’s arrival, counting down days till its premiere.

There was a Wonka premiere in London on November 28, 2023, while film will theatrically release in UK and India on December 8, and hit the US theatres on December 15. Those who have already seen the culinary adventure have raved about it on X.

One user wrote that Chalamet is “pitch-perfect, radiating his signature charisma” as Wonka in his first musical venture as an actor.

Another called the film “a dazzling and scrumdiddlyumptious cinematic hug.”

A fourth chirpily rated the film an eight out of ten before calling it a “sweet treat.”

Another fan claimed to be on a “sugar rush” from the film and could not “wait to watch it again.”

A particularly satisfied fan advised all “kids and kids-at-heart" to not miss the film.
