Team India, after winning the first two games of the 4-match Test series, faced a setback after they faced a 9-wicket loss to Australia in the 3rd Test. With the victory, the Aussies booked their final spot in the World Test Championships (WTC) 2023. With one spot remaining, can Team India make it to WTC Final yet again?

The Men in Blue are currently playing the 4th and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Despite the setback, Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to bounce back and secure a victory against their formidable opponents and make it to the WTC Final.

India WTC final qualification scenarios:

If India wins the 4th Test: If India wins the Border-Gavaskar series 3-1 against Australia, they will have a PCT of 63.0, putting them in second place in the points table. Despite lowering their PCT to 65.0, Australia will still qualify for the WTC final by topping the WTC points table.

Even if Sri Lanka has a 2-0 win over New Zealand, it won't have any impact as they will finish with a PCT of 61.0, placing them third behind Australia and India.

As a result, a 3-1 result in India vs. Australia Test series guarantees both teams a spot in the WTC final.

If the 4th Test ends in a draw: If the 4th game of the series ends in a draw, Sri Lanka will have a chance to make it to the WTC final.

However, if India wants to make it to the final, they will hope Sri Lanka does not win the Test series against New Zealand by a 2-0 score. If Sri Lanka succeeds, it will surpass India in the WTC points table and take the coveted second spot with a PCT of 61.0.

If Australia wins the 4th Test: If the visitors win the 4th game and the 4-match series ends in a 2-2 draw, Sri Lanka will have a chance to qualify for the WTC final if they can defeat New Zealand 2-0.

However, it is critical to note that Sri Lanka must sweep the Kiwis in the series. Sri Lanka will not be able to secure second place in the World Test Championship points table with a 1-0 victory or a 1-1 tie.
