Bollywood continues to be bashed even as 2022 comes to an end, and with a few pieces of content that have been released on OTT, the anger seems justified. Even some of the most talented actors have proven to be a disappointment this year. This includes the likes of Akshay Kumar, Pratik Gandhi, Vikrant Massey, and Jitendra Kumar. Even when they performed flawlessly, the story of the show and its execution were so weak that their acting became next to nil.

Akshay’s Cuttputtli became fodder for memes ever since the first promo was out, and there was no going back from there. This is a film that could have been so much better if it was recreated by the right kind of people. Go back and watch the Tamil film Ratsasan to understand the difference. Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you’d see the difference in quality.

Meanwhile, a successful franchise like Abhay fell apart with a concept that was so bizarre that nobody could believe it was the same show as the previous installments. While Abhay seasons one and two kept you constantly on the edge of your seat with a new crime story, season three went in one direction, and that was down a dark road. All actors, but especially Kunal Kemmu and Vidya Malvade, excelled in the acting department. Alas, if the story could not match the previous installments, their skills went almost unnoticed.

Take Pratik’s Atithi Bhooto Bhava or even The Great Indian Murder, for example. While Pratik is a talented actor, the film barely made sense to people and ended up being one of the worst performing films of the year 2022.

Remember Riteish Deshmukh-Tamannaah’s much-awaited movie, Plan A Plan B? Unfortunately for this film, nobody made any plans that involved watching the two in Plan A Plan B. The movie had no planning and, thus, is out of people’s memories now.

Vikrant Massey is undoubtedly one of the most underrated actors India has. However, he got stuck in the rut in 2022 too. With a film like Forensic, co-starring the unannounced queen of OTT, Radhika Apte, he left everyone’s heart broken, not beautifully.

Madhur Bhandarkar and Tamannaah tried to tell a tale with Babli Bouncer. However, like the name suggests, everything went awry with the people who started streaming this movie. Many things in the movie make absolutely no sense, and thus it was one of the rejected films of the year.

This was not the only rejected content from Madhur this year. He also released India Lockdown more recently. In a film about the lockdown that took place in 2020, the trauma was already enough. Seeing all of that in a film was not on anybody’s list of things to do.

It took Jitendra Kumar a Panchayat 2 before people could get over his film Jaadugar, which is about a footballer-magician. Confused about the profession? Imagine what the people watching the movie went through!

Despite giving something mind-boggling like Candy in 2021, Voot did not have great things to offer in 2022. Arjun Rampal’s London Files was an open-and-shut case. While the actor proved his talent as an actor, the story was extremely confusing, with the plot more lost than the central lead. Soon after, Gaurav Arora and Aamna Sharif’s Aadha Ishq didn’t even catch half the interest of the viewers. Although the series was shot in beautiful places, it wasn’t enough to distract the viewers from the lack of a storyline and the back-to-back cringe content.

We haven’t even come to the worst offering of the year, Anamika. Sunny Leone took up action in the spy-gone-rogue series, and even though most love to see her in action, this one just didn’t cut the chase.

Talking about cutting to the chase, there was one web series that promised a lot but ended up providing very little. It was Abir Chatterjee’s debut in Hindi through the web series, Avrodh season 2. After raising the bar, this show went in all directions and was lost in the process.

Blurr created a blurry picture of thriller, and it wasn’t the best out there. Taapsee Pannu had already offered Dobaaraa, and so, by the time Blurr released, there was very little difference between the two films and an overdose of Taapsee.

Jaideep Ahlawat has made his mark in Bollywood, but it took one twisted project, Bloody Brothers, to question him. Touté as a comedy show, Bloody Brothers did not justify the humor, from the title to the content.

When talking about unforgettable content, can you remember "Bestseller"? No? That’s because it wasn’t even close to being the bestseller on OTT. This show, starring Gauahar Khan and Shruti Haasan, was lost in translation. It is often said that too many cooks spoil the dish. Something similar happened in this case, and of course, it wasn’t in favour of the series.

Last but not least, right before bidding goodbye, Four More Shots Please! season 3 gave it its worst season ever. The show was blasted left, right, and centre for promoting toxicity. Thus, this is one goodbye that wasn’t hard.

Buh-bye, 2022. We hope to never see you again, neither on OTT nor in theatres.
