Time and again, we’re witnessing several instances in Telugu cinema where box office successes aren’t impressing audiences on OTT. How does one ensure a product where crowds react to a film similarly in theatres and the digital space? It’s a formula that many in the industry are hoping to crack. It’s now the turn of Writer Padmabhushan, which premiered on ZEE5, to face flak online.

One of the key reasons behind the success of Writer Padmabhushan is its marketing campaign before and after the release. Except for Suhas, Rohini and Ashish Vidyarthi, the film, directed by debutant Shanmukha Prashanth, didn’t have many recognisable faces and the makers relied on innovative strategies to draw audiences to theatres across the Telugu states.

After a five-week theatrical run, the family entertainer released on OTT this weekend via ZEE5. Many viewers, who missed the film in theatres, were eagerly looking forward to its OTT premiere. Surprisingly, Writer Padmabhushan hasn’t impressed streaming enthusiasts, who wondered how did such a ‘boring’ film strike gold at the box office. Take a look at a few responses from netizens here.

Writer Padmabhushan revolves around a struggling writer cum assistant librarian, who receives the shock of his life, when a relative claims to be a fan of his writing and even promises to get his daughter married to him. When the writer has barely published a book, which is a failure at the market, how can someone admire his work? Watch the film to find out more.

Gouri Priya, Goparaju Ramana played other crucial roles in the film produced by Anurag Reddy, Sharath Chandra and Chandru Manoharan. With music by Shekhar Chandra and Kalyan Nayak, the entertainer has cinematography by Venkat R Shakamuri and is edited by Kodati Pavan Kalyan and Siddharth Thatholu.
