Kannada filmmaker D Satya Prakash has managed what a lot of others in the industry have failed to do – secure a post-theatrical OTT deal. Satya had released his latest directorial venture X&Y in theatres on June 26 and while his idea seemed novel, his presentation wasn’t and the film, therefore, didn’t work at the box office. Despite the middling reviews, though, X&Y is making its way to OTT. Sun Network has picked up the streaming rights of the film, which will drop on the Sun NXT platform on July 25. It will be available via OTTplay Premium as well.

X&Y is the latest film by Satya, who’s best known for Rama Rama Re, Ondalla Eradalla (National Film Award for Feature Film on National Integration) and Man of the Match. Considering that there are dime a dozen ghost stories on the big screen across genres, Satya tried to flip the script and present a tale of a soul that is yet to undertake its worldly journey. What would this soul make of the world as it is today? That was the question the filmmaker intended to address with his film, which marked his acting debut.

Satya was Kreede, a do-gooder autorickshaw driver, whose vehicle functions as an ambulance for the neighbourhood health clinic. When he accidentally ‘kills’ a nameless vagrant, who miraculously comes back to life, Kreede tries to find his near-and-dear ones. Problem is that this vagabond is back in the world of the living thanks to an innocent soul that’s on a whistlestop visit to earth with a mission – to unite its parents and ensure its existence.

That soul so happens to be that of Kreede’s unborn child, who must now not only unite its parents, but first find a partner for the latter, who’s had no luck with the ladies so far. The duo do track down the amma-to-be, but will she be onboard this plan with a man she’s never met before? While this is the basic plot of Satya’s X&Y, it also explores issues of abandonment – orphans and senior citizens in orphanages and old age homes, respectively.
