National Award-winning filmmaker D Satya Prakash’s (Rama Rama Re ) latest film X&Y gets its title from the human chromosome structure. Satya, who is known to bring in philosophical ideas into his film narratives, does not deviate from this for X&Y, but tells it from the perspective of an unborn person, whose soul makes it to earth, albeit for a short stint.

X&Y: Mission 'appa meets amma'

Satya, who fills in as producer and lead actor too in X&Y, released the trailer of the film ahead of its theatrical outing on June 26, 2025. The trailer opens with an unborn soul pleading to god to allow it a quick visit on earth with the sole purpose of uniting its prospective parents and facilitating its ‘proper’ arrival. The soul makes its way to the body of a person (Atharva Prakash), who died in the rikshaw-ambulance service operated by Satya’s character.

In a body, but on a deadline, the ‘soul’ sets off on its mission to unite ‘appa and amma’, but will it succeed? That is for audiences to find out when the film hits theatres. In a conversation with OTTplay after the teaser of X&Y came out, Satya had said that he was fascinated with the idea of exploring the perspective of a soul that’s yet to be born, given that there are dime-a-dozen tales of souls/ghosts across genres.

“What would an unborn soul make of the earth and its people the way it is now. It’s like an alien observing humanity and what it is doing to the planet. This was the seed to the idea of the film, which I have developed,” he had said. The filmmaker adds that he has tried his best not to make the narrative preachy and that he has made an entertaining film.
