Six months after its theatrical release, Yaariyan 2 has finally made its way to OTT. Yes, the coming-of-age romantic drama film starring Divya Khosla Kumar, Yash Dasgupta, Meezaan Jafri, and Pearl V. Puri in the lead roles is currently streaming on JioCinema. Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru direct the film, which serves as a standalone sequel to Khosla Kumar's 2014 directorial debut film Yaariyan and a remake of Anjali Menon's 2014 Malayalam film Bangalore Days

Yaariyan 2 plot

In Yaariyaan 2, Mumbai is the setting for the adventures, aspirations, and self-discovery of three cousins, Laadli (Divya Khosla Kumar), Bajrang (Pearl V Puri), and Shikhar (Meezaan Jafri). Laadli's marriage to Abhay (Yash Dasgupta) is in jeopardy; Shikhar faces a ban from bike racing; and Bajju endures heartbreak. The film delves into the subjects of love, friendship, and the transforming power of human connections.

Yaariyan 2 also stars Anaswara Rajan, Priya Prakash Varrier, Bhagyashri Borse, and Warina Hussain in pivotal roles.

Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Aayush Maheshwari produced the movie under the auspices of T-Series Films, Rao and Sapru Films, and BLM Motion Pictures. The film bombed at the box office and failed to make any money.

Controversy surrounding religious sensibilities

Meanwhile, claiming that the film's lead actor Meezaan Jafri's kirpan-wearing performance in the song Saure Ghar offended religious sensibilities, the Sikh Talmel Committee lodged a complaint against the film's producers. A kirpan is one of the five sacred emblems (kakaars) that every baptised Sikh wears on their body. Therefore, according to the Sikh code of conduct, anyone who is not a Sikh or has not undergone baptism is prohibited from wearing a kirpan.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a complaint naming T-Series, Radhika Rao, Vinay Sapru, and Meezaan Jafri, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the film. In an effort to deliberately incite religious feelings among the Sikh population, the Amritsar Police filed an FIR at the E Division Police Station under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code.

The actor and the producers apologised, and they cut the sequences to emphasise that Jafri was actually wearing a Khukri, a short weapon similar to a kirpan but with no religious significance.

Meanwhile, you can watch Yaariyaan 2 on JioCinema.
