Dasvi is a story that centres on the importance of education, through its unorthodox protagonist, a politician who finds himself in jail. Yami Gautam, who essays a pivotal role in the film, recently opened up about shooting the project in a real jail.
In conversation with the news agency IANS, the actress said that one of the most ‘memorable’ parts of shooting was to film at a real jail for the first time. “When I was told about the shooting location there was so much apprehension and there were a number of questions that were coming to mind,” she said.
Gautam said that they were unsure of whether the shoot would take place there, and that she initially was afraid of the same. As an actor, she said working in a calm and quiet atmosphere with no distractions was important. Even if they had to shoot in a busy street, giving it their best depended on being focussed. But she was scared whether she would be able to do that if the shoot happened at a jail. In the end, though, things had worked out.
Abhishek Bachchan, who stars as the protagonist in the film, had recently hosted a screening of Dasvi at Agra jail. The actor revealed that he had promised the inmates of the jail while they were shooting the film. He was joined by his co-stars Gautama nd Nimrat Kaur, and director Tushar Jalota at the event.
The upcoming film, produced by Dinesh Vijan (Maddock Films) and Bake My Cake Films, also features Shivam Roy Prabhakar, Manu Rishi Chadha, Arun Kushwaha, Shivankit Singh Parihar, and Sumit Shekhar Rai.
Dasvi will start streaming on Netflix and Jio Cinema from April 7.
