Yami Gautam is renowned for being outspoken about the problems she sees in the movie business, and she has recently spoken out about how certain people, namely journalists, made fun of her for playing a "minor role" in Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil (2017). She also made a comparison between Bollywood and Hollywood, claiming that in the West, the length of a part is irrelevant. In India, she noted that people often make a huge deal about such things.

Yami portrayed Supriya, the wife of Hrithik's character, Rohan Bhatnagar, in Kaabil. The actor reminisced about it to Galatta Plus and said that when she was called out, she was informed that she had a little or cameo role in the movie. Kaabil is another movie in which she is incredibly grateful to have had a role. The viewers loved it, and now, when she engages with journalists, they say things like she was fantastic in that film. However, the actor responds by saying that's not what they wrote back then.

Yami went on to say that even the biggest stars in Hollywood sometimes play supporting roles. It's one of the few occasions, in her opinion, when we should consider Hollywood. Even the biggest actors are willing to take on roles and collaborate with directors when the opportunity arises. They are unconcerned; they simply arrive, perform an astounding feat, and depart. People make it such a big thing over here.

Yami made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with Ayushmann Khurrana in Vicky Donor. She said that Kaabil, Uri, and Bala are still important movies in her filmography.

Yami had a very busy 2022, making appearances in the movies A Thursday and Dasvi. She is now looking forward to the Sunny Kaushal movie Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga on Netflix and the Aniruddha Roy Chowdhary movie Lost, in which she plays a Kolkata-based journalist. She will also appear with Akshay Kumar in OMG 2. This movie is a follow-up to his 2012 success.
