If a mother takes the law in her hands and becomes judge, jury and executioner to kill the person that unleashed unspeakable atrocities on her child, as far as the legal system is concerned, it should be a clear-cut open and shut case declaring her a murderer and punishment be meted out accordingly. But would that really be the right course of action? Wouldn’t any parent react exactly the way this mother did if their child was subjected to abuse? Is such violence justified?

Yuddhakaanda: A hard-hitting courtroom drama

These are some of the questions that actor Krishna Ajai Rao’s upcoming release, Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2 raises, as was seen int the trailer that came out on April 13, days ahead of the film’s April 18, 2025 theatrical outing. Crazy Star Ravichandran, who starred in the original Yuddha Kaanda, which was also a courtroom drama, years ago, released the trailer of Ajai’s film. In the trailer, Archana Jois (of KGF fame) is the mother in question, who shoots her young daughter’s abuser in cold blood.

Ajai, who is known for his romantic roles in fllms like Krishnan Love Story, Krishnan Marriage Story ,etc., is the lawyer who decides to defend her, even when most others fail to see the possibility of a win. He is pitted against Prakash Belawadi, who is hell bent on declaring her a murderer and getting her the strictest punishment as per the law of the land. Is there hope for the mother? This will be revealed when the film hits theatres on April 18.

In his media interactions as part of the promotions of Yuddhakaanda, Ajai has repeatedly stated that he chose to produce the Pavan Bhat directorial because the subject tugged at his heart, given that he has a young daughter. The film is Ajai’s answer to what he would do if his family was ever in such trouble and he hopes that it will evoke emotions and a call for change within society to prevent atrocities against women and young girls.
