Yuva Rajkumar’s sophomore film, Ekka, directed by Rohit Padaki of Dayavittu Gamanisi and Rathnan Prapancha fame, and produced by PRK Productions in collaboration with KRG Studios, had been announced as a June 6 theatrical release. However, none of the promotional posts on social media since the Ekka Maar song, including the recent teaser that came out on Yuva’s birthday feature a release date, which had given rise to speculation that the film could be delayed.

Ekka likely in theatres in late June

On condition of anonymity, a filmmaker, who is looking at releasing his film in June or July, told OTTplay that Ekka is, most definitely, not meeting its June 6 release window. Apparently, the team is yet to shoot a couple of songs and some talkie portions, and even though everything’s that’s been completed is already in post-production, including editing and dubbing, getting it theatre ready in 4 weeks is not possible, said the source, adding that Ekka will likely target an end of June date now.

Ekka, meanwhile, is the first of two films that PRK Productions and KRG Studios are making with Yuva. A film with Sukka Suri, who’d given Puneeth Rajkumar one of his biggest hits, Jackie , is in the pipeline. Although Rohit’s film is said to have Jackie vibes, based on the teaser, expectations from Suri are sky-high, given his track record with the Doddmane, namely Jackie , Kaddi Pudi, Doddmane Huduga and Tagaru .

Yuva Rajkumar made his debut with Yuva, directed by Santhosh Ananddram and produced by Hombale Films. While the film served as a perfect showreel for the actor to show off his dance and fight skillsets, his acting in the more emotionally heavy sequences received brickbats. The film did not give Yuva the start to the career he’d hoped for, which he’s aiming for with Ekka. The makers are said to be playing to the gallery, given that Yuva is being prepped to fill the void left by his uncle, Puneeth.
