The late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar was, undoubtedly, one of the most fit actors in Kannada cinema. Puneeth’s social media page has a lot of videos from his workouts, all of which were testimony to his dedication to fitness. Despite all his efforts, the actor tragically lost his life, aged only 47, in 2021. Yuva Rajkumar, Puneeth’s brother Raghavendra’s younger son, recently made his film debut with Yuva, directed by Santosh Ananddram.

Yuva Rajkumar is a wrestler in Yuva

The actor played a promising wrestling champion, who is accused of malpractice and suspended from the sport. When he then manages to clear his name and return to active wrestling, his coach, played by Kishore, puts him through the paces. This sequence has been captured in the song Baduku Ondu Ranaranga and while the context there is Yuva’s return to national-level wrestling, one is reminded of Puneeth while watching the actor during his workout. Yuva’s choice of exercises and body language has him channelling Puneeth and how.

The full video of the song has just been made available on streaming platforms. Yuva, meanwhile, has been on Amazon Prime Video since the last week of April. Currently it is only available with Kannada audio and English subtitles, but the film has been censored in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu as well, so those audio options will be uploaded shortly.

Produced by Hombale Films, Yuva was the big-ticket launchpad that Santosh had put together, but eventually became a hotch-potch of too many elements with no proper focus. The film made its way to OTT by week 3, albeit on rental only and then moved to free to view for subscribers a week later.

Yuva also stars Sapthami Gowda as the romantic interest, while Achyuth Kumar and Sudharani played his parents and Hitha Chandrashekhar his sister. Gopalkrishna Deshpande had a pivotal role as the principal of the engineering college that Yuva studied at.
