Ziddi Girls trailer: Shonali Bose brings bold college drama about ambition and friendship

Over the weekend, Ziddi Girls was announced, an upcoming original series on Prime Video that combines elements of both the past and the present. The trailer for the series was unveiled today. Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy are the creative minds behind this teen drama, which is produced by Pritish Nandy under the name of Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd. The show's creators, Shonali Bose, Vasant Nath, and Neha Veena Sharma, are also its directors and writers. Along with renowned actors Simran, Nandita Das, Nandish Singh Sandhu, Lillete Dubey, and Revathy, an ensemble of newcomers—including Atiya Tara Nayak, Umang Bhadana, Zaina Ali, Deeya Damini, and Anupriya Caroli—brings to life the exciting and thought-provoking college experience on screen. On February 27, the eight-part original series will debut exclusively on Prime Video in Hindi with English subtitles.

Premise of Ziddi Girls: Battle of ideologies at Matilda House College

Ziddi Girls takes viewers on a journey to Matilda House College (or MH) in this trailer, a place where tradition is strong yet change is unavoidable. A fearless new generation has emerged, ready to challenge established norms, break through barriers, and advocate for their beliefs. The university becomes a battlefield of ideologies as ambition and resistance clash, sparking tensions. Even in the midst of chaos, one can find laughter, genuine relationships, and friendships forged through fire and courageous goals. Can these ziddi (bold) females find a way to assert themselves, voice their opinions, and transform the game?

Shonali Bose on Ziddi Girls' relatability

Bose explained in a statement that Ziddi Girls is not just another college drama—it's a raw, unfiltered portrayal of what it means to be a young woman today. People can relate to the characters because they are all richly developed and have been through similar experiences. As they grow up, dealing with friendships, aspirations, and personal challenges, the story feels very real and relatable. And the ensemble cast is absolutely brilliant in bringing them to life— bringing realism to every achievement, pain, and rebellion. They are thrilled to tell this narrative and know that viewers will relate when it debuts.

As writers and directors, Sharma and Nath shared that they did extensive research while digging deep into their own college experiences so that Ziddi Girls would feel authentic, relevant, and deeply relatable. The powerful influences, intense friendships, and lofty goals that permeate the campus shape the identities of college students, making it a place of immense potential.

They added that Ziddi Girls is an exciting blend of humour, rebellion, and passion since each character lends a unique dynamic to the story. It has been an incredible experience to work with a fantastic ensemble, including both established actors and up-and-coming talent, who have brought the characters to life in ways they could never have predicted. The narrative was taken to a whole new level by working with Bose. It has been a wonderful experience working on this incredible production with Ishita and Rangita, and they are incredibly thankful to Prime Video for being a supporting partner throughout.
