Actress Shahana Goswami, who in the last two years has tasted success with back-to-back web projects such as A Suitable Boy, Bombay Begums, The Last Hour and Hush Hush, will next be seen on the big screen. She plays the female lead in the Kapil Sharma-starrer, Zwigato, which is directed by Nandita Das.
Sahana is very choosy about her work. During an interactive session with the media, the actress was asked why she does limited work. Shahana said, "When it comes to choosing a project, I do not have any strategy. I don't even use my brains, since I am instinctive and do what my heart says. Since the beginning of my journey as an actress, I have only done films that touched my heart. So, it is not that I do not want to work, it's just that I want to get more offers through which I can choose good scripts. The story has to speak to me. Also, I am more interested in a collaborative process."
In the past, Shahana has played pivotal parts in Nandita's directorial ventures like Firaaq and Manto.
"Of course, I love Nandita's work, which is why I have worked with her in the past, in two of her films. Since she does not make many films, I didn't know if I would get the chance to work with her again, even though I had the desire to. Thankfully, this is her third film and I have been in all of her films," added the actress.
In Zwigato, Sahana is paired with Kapil, and plays his wife, Pratima. Her character does odd jobs to support her husband through a difficult financial phase, and raise their two children.
Asked about working with Kapil, and the Rock On!! actress said, "When I got to know that he is playing the male lead, I thought that it was an unusual choice. But when I met him and started working with him, I realised that he is the perfect choice for the role. Only someone like Nandita could have chosen him for such a role."
Produced by Applause Entertainment, Zwigato also stars Gul Panag, Sayani Gupta and Swanand Kirkire. It releases in the theatre on March 17.
