A dark, gripping movie that is a must watch

Anurag Kashyap's new film is a whodunit used to reveal human baseness

 It’s not for the faint-hearted, but for those who are willing to let the morally decrepit live.

It takes that darkness to an extreme, even more so that his first, unreleased 'Paanch': a little girl goes missing, and what happens subsequently (and consequently) does not just flow from the fear and anguish.

For all its cynicism, Ugly is a deeply moral film that views its damaged and dissolute characters with disapproval. 

Ugly is a disappointment, not just because it's a whodunit that sinks like a badly-made souffle but also because we expect better and more of Kashyap.
