Charting the way for her fellow female colleagues, actress Deepika Padukone has managed to carve a niche within Bollywood that not only commands respect but is a result of sheer hard work. Having debuted opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007), Padukone could not have had a snazzier entrance. However, the naysayers criticised her for her lukewarm screen presence and less-than-perfect acting chops. Her roles in Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and Chandni Chowk To China (2009) only made the noise louder around her.

However, her turning point came with Cocktail (2012), where her role as the unabashed Veronica had all the critics laud her for her free-spirited performance. This was followed by a spate of successes with Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (2015) followed by Padmaavat (2018).
