Football is gaining popularity in India in recent years, almost comparable to cricket. Indian films have had a good run with sports films, with titles such as De Dana Dan Goal, or even Sudani from Nigeria being testaments to that fact.
Filmmakers are experimenting with the sport, trying to infuse them in their films. Biopics are also now being made on footballers. John Abraham will be seen in a film based on the footballer Sibdas Bhaduri.
More recently, films such as Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund, based on the founder of the NGO Slum Soccer, Vijay Barse, celebrate the sport in all its true form and glory.
